Revit and AutoCAD

Currently, CES employs two versions of software to create our design documentation; Revit and AutoCAD.

For a majority of our projects, Revit is the Building Information Modeling (BIM) software of choice as it provides the best means of visualizing our design. With Revit, the engineers and designers work in an environment that allows all disciplines to see the complete building systems for all trades in real time, helping ensure that the overall building design fits together within the building envelope.

For projects in AutoCAD, a simpler yet less visual means of creating documentation is utilized for projects that may have an accelerated schedule or possibly a project where finite coordination is not a requirement of the client. This is not to say that coordination is not important for these projects, but that the visual assurances that Revit provides are not required or expected.

At this time, depending on the client, we utilize Revit 2017, 2018, 2019 and now 2020. Revit is a fixed year software and requires the whole project team to use the same year build. As for AutoCAD, the company is completing a full roll-out of AutoCAD MEP 2019. AutoCAD builds are generally good for 4 years of compatible formats.
