When possible, place pipe sizes in-line with the pipe. The use of the dot leader for pipes should be minimized to help with editing time, additional coordination with objects nearby, and with inadvertent moves when pipe is shifted in the model. If tags overlap when pipes are closer together, offset the tags to avoid text clarity issues. The leaders will be needed as space is restricted but use should be only when no other clear means is possible. Please note that there is an aligning and non-aligning tag for pipe. This allows for the pipe tag to remain in-line on pipes that are drawn at angles not perpendicular to the view.
